Where larger places are set to undergo a lengthy and extensive transformation, it is crucial to address placemaking in parallel with zoning efforts. Placemaking in this context means intentionally building place identity, not least by enabling local community activities. This encourages relationships and sentiment towards a place, therefore avoiding an empty and dormant place both during and after a transformation.
